This is another article in a series of interviews conducted for Technorati's Road To Comic-Con coverage. From July 12th to the 15th, nearly 150,000 people will crowd into the San Diego Convention Center to experience the largest pop culture event in North America.

In this article, we're talking with comic book writer Shane Houghton, who is the co-creator and author of Image Comics' series Reed Gunther, with his brother Chris Houghton. He's experienced several Comic-Cons and is looking forward to this year's show.

The interview began with a surprise as Shane explained that Reed Gunther would be going on hiatus. "My brother and I are pretty young in our careers," explained Houghton. "We thought it would be good to get another story out there, so we don't become one-trick ponies. We want to try some new things and then come back to Reed Gunther."

Shane then talked about the genesis of Reed Gunther. "For Christmas 2008, I gave Chris a script for a 30 page Reed Gunther story entitled Reed Gunther and the Steak Snacking Snake," he said in the discussion of his career origins. "We self-published that issue in summer of 2009 in black and white, followed that up with four black and white self-published issues before getting picked up by Image Comics, which has published ten issues."

Shane, and his brother, are not just focused on Image Comics. They contribute content to Boom! Studios (Peanuts and Adventure Time) and Bongo Comics (The Simpsons.) Shane is a freelance editor, as well, whose current show is airing on TLC called Tattoo School.

The conversation shifted to Comic-Con and his experiences. "My first time at Comic-Con was as a fan in 2008," he said. "The past three years I've attended as a pro which included the last two at the Image Comics booth. We had our own booth in 2009 ... if you can call it that. We had about two square feet so there is something really special about having a lot more room."
