The world did not end in 2012, but it did take a lot of notable personalities along. Let's remember some of those who passed away this year.

Whitney Houston:
Born: August 9, 1963
Died: February 11, 2012
Whitney was an American recording artist, actress and producer. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Houston was the most awarded female of all time.
The toxicology reports stated that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub due to the effects of chronic cocaine use and heart disease. Her death news came when people as people were preparing for the Grammy Awards.

Mike Wallace:
Born: May 9, 1918
Died: April 7, 2012
Mike Wallace was a renowned American journalist, game show host, actor and media personality. In his 60-year long career, Wallace interviewed a wide range of prominent newsmakers. He was also one of the original correspondents for CBS 60 Minutes.
Wallace was honored with a total of 21 Emmy Awards.

Donna Summer:

Born: December 31, 1948
Died: May 17, 2012
She was an American singer and a songwriter. Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the United States Billboard chart
Summer received 5 Grammy Awards. It was announced after her death that she would be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

Ray Bradbury:

Born: August 22, 1920
Died: June 5, 2012
He was an American fantasy, science fiction, horror and mystery fiction writer. Bradbury was best known for his novel Fahrenheit 451. He was one of the most celebrated 20th-century American writers. Many of his works have been adapted into television shows or films.

Sally Ride:
Born: May 26, 1951
Died: July 23, 2012
She was the first American woman to enter into low Earth orbit. She's also the youngest American astronaut to be launched into space
Ride received numerous awards, including the National Space Society's von Braun Award, the Lindbergh Eagle, and the NCAA's Theodore Roosevelt Award. She is also inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.
