Announcing the SIGGRAPH 2012 conference is an update keeping in line with the original 2012 events listing available in this column, Convergence In Entertainment.

In 2011, SIGGRAPH was allegedly Vancouver's largest conference. This year's conference at LA's Convention Center--August 5-9--should prove no less grand and exciting. The 39th annual international conference is the top destination for the creative graphics industry, with an expected 25,000 professionals coming in from all over the globe.

SIGGRAPH is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). ACM's Digital Library is a top source for both free and subscription-based publications covering original research in computing and IT. The list of Journals and Magazines is daunting. The Library is unrivaled in information and education on graphics and computer science, starting with the Encyclopedia of Computer Science available as a PDF.

The SIGGRAPH conference is a living museum of the latest in digital art, featuring the latest technologies and plenty of opportunity for networking. But don't expect just static views. The Computer Animation Festival portion of the conference takes you into the world of film, video and 3D--time-based art, they call it! The festival is also a setup for the Oscar in Best Animated Short Film. And hey, for those writers out there with something unique to offer, SIGGRAPH has a call for papers in areas such as modeling, animation, rendering, imaging, human-computer interaction, computer games, scientific and information visualization, computer-aided design, computer vision, audio, and even robotics.
