Star Trek 45th Anniversary: Rene Auberjonois 360 - Page 2
Auberjonois did dozens of guest starring roles in various television series; he was offered the opportunity to star as a regular in some of television’s most popular shows of the 70’s including Mash and Charlie’s Angels in which he was offered the role of Bosley.
“I was not ready to commit to a series.” Auberjonois explained as to why he turned down some of these roles on iconic television. He has no regrets about any of the decision that he made. This is a clearly a man who truly understands that any and everything happens in its own time and for a reason.
Auberjonois decided to make the leap in his career.
“In 1980, I decided to commit to a television series because of my family situation,” he remembered, “My kids were at the point where we couldn’t keep going back and forth between New York and LA we had to settle somewhere and get them into school on a regular basis.”
He joined the cast of the hit show Benson in its second season as Clayton Endicott III.
“When the Benson offer came along we decided that was the best choice – in fact it was the perfect choice for our family life,” Auberjonois explained, “When I joined the show our son Remy was 6 years old and our daughter Tessa was 8 years old.”
It is very evident that Auberjonois was the dedicated showbiz father; family is a very important element to him. It was quite pleasant to hear that from such a dedicated actor in a business that demands so much of those involved in it. Rene has been married to his wife, Judith, his favorite person for 48 years.
“I was able to get up every morning and make them breakfast, make their lunch, drive them to school and then go to work,” he said proudly, “Working on a sitcom especially at that time; you could set your watch by the schedule. It just fit into our lives perfectly. The hiatus time was great when our kids were out of school. It was just the perfect job.”Continued on the next page
