The Family of Sweet Pickles
If you’re reading this story, hopefully that means you have read our story on recreating the wonderful town of Sweet Pickles in a new medium for today’s generation to read with yesterday’s Sweet Pickles kids (like myself).
I’m extremely proud to present to you John and Chris Hefter – the two sons of Richard Hefter (pictured below), one of the creative geniuses behind the original Sweet Pickles series, along with Jacquelyn Reinach and Ruth Lerner.
John and Chris were an integral part in keeping their father’s legacy alive while ushering the brand into the 21st century – to deliver it in a new and more exciting way than ever before. They have partnered with CEO Scott Greenberg and Creative Director Janelle Pitchford at Bento Box Interactive – the company responsible for breathing new life into the town of Sweet Pickles.
“Scott having grown up as a Sweet Pickles kid obviously knew what it felt like and knew the story behind it – as a business man he also has the know how to capitalize on that, so we’re very excited to be working with him on this.” Chris said.
“Maintaining the integrity of the series was one of the most important reasons that Bento Box and Sweet Pickles make such a great team. The series had such great success during its original run – and if you maintain continuity and the same rhythms on a new platform, then we are bound for the same level of success that we had the first time.” John said.
Many of those who were Sweet Pickles kids have kids and grandkids of their own – they will want to share in the excitement of rebirthing something that meant so much to so many of us.
“One of the beautiful things of Sweet Pickles was that it combined something very visually stimulating to the kids, but got the message across to the kids in a way where they could interpret it, internalize it and really come up with a solution for themselves. Its uniqueness lie in the fact that it didn’t force feed the answer to them.” Chris said.
