The Muppets are Back!
Wednesday, November 23rd marks the return of The Muppets to the big screen. It has been awhile but I know many of you out there, like me, have been waiting for this day. The Muppets seem to hold a special place in our hearts and have been helping to educate society since the 70’s. Now thanks to the love of the masses and one Jason Segel, the Muppets hit theaters across the country for this holiday weekend.
Jason Segel was actually one of the catalysts that made this possible. Segel teamed up with Nicholas Stoller to write the screenplay. Segel has always been a very big fan of the Muppets. His mother actually collected Muppet Show episodes on VHS which Segel watched as he was too young to catch the Muppets when they originally aired. Might be surprising if you have seen such films as “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” which many of us will say maybe we saw just a little too much of Mr. Segel. But Jason Segel is a puppeteer himself and has an understanding and appreciation for the work the people behind our much loved characters do. We get so enthralled in these characters that we sometimes forget there is a person somewhere who is bringing this character to life. And so Segel really was the perfect person to return us to the world of the Muppets.

Disney made a great move when deciding to bring on board Director James Bobin and actor/songwriter Bret McKenzie who were part of the team that brought us HBO’s “Flight of the Concords”. Their experience and humor was a perfect fit for the Muppets who have brought us memorable musical numbers that will live on in years to come. I still remember Leo Sayer singing his hit “When I need You” up a tree with woodland animals first trying to get to him, then joining in to sing with him. If you doubt the combo, remember this article once you have seen the movie, because the opening and closing song, “Life’s a Happy Song” will be playing in your head for days.
