Vick Cancels Appearance with Oprah
Michael Vick was scheduled to be a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show that airs next Thursday, Feb 24th.
Michael Vick has canceled his appearance on the show.
Vick’s rep issued the following statement regarding the cancellation on behalf of the NFL player: “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.”
Living in the Philadelphia area, I am surrounded by Eagles Fans and they have quite a reputation. Many people protested the recruitment of the quarterback that spent 18 months in prison for running a dog-fighting ring. After Michael Vick started playing well for the Eagles, people seemed to care less and less about Vick’s dirty past. Vick has apologized and I heard many say, “He served his time” and thought that it was time to move on.
I was looking forward to seeing Oprah interview Michael Vick next week. I felt that he was never publicly asked any tough questions nor have I heard him apologize for specifically taking part in dog-fighting. This made it hard for me to believe that he was really truly sorry for what he had done, but mostly just sorry that he got caught.
I know I am not alone in my opinion of Michael Vick and an interview with Oprah Winfrey might have helped changed my opinion of him. Instead I can’t help but think that he is scared to talk about the ugliness of dog-fighting and how he allowed himself to be a part of it.
He says he hopes he would be able to participate in a future interview with Oprah.
This is The Oprah Winfrey Show’s last season. I’m sure Vick is aware of that and I’m sure Oprah would have him on again if he really wanted to be on her show. I somehow think this “Second Chance” isn’t one that he wants.
