Video Games Are Good For Your Health

Europe has a slightly different take on how video games affect health and behavior than America's obsession with "video games cause violence."

PopCap Games did a study with a Goldsmiths University Psychologist, Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, discovering concentration improved in kids playing video games, and it brought them closer to their parents.

Sure, PopCap Games are for kids. But the APA reinforces the European study demonstrating no conclusive evidence that violent video games--or TV shows and movies--cause violence.

It's fair to assume games that promote the killing of innocent bystanders, cops and prostitutes, isn't the best value the entertainment industry has to offer.

In America--if not everywhere--violence IS entertainment. Gangs hurt people for fun and as an initiation into a gang. Shows like Cops overwhelmingly shows white cops chasing and arresting minorities. Many people I know personally will not watch movies if they don't have blood and guts spilling across the screen.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court rejected a ban on violent video games.

You'll notice in the video ABC pegs the video game industry at $80 billion, but that figure is suspect.

The old adage, "Don't believe everything you read" applies to TV and online news shows as well. Even the most popular news sources have a tendency to fail in citing their sources, something every college student is required to do when ever they write a paper.

Whatever the numbers, clearly video games are big business, and a preponderance of the games are violence-based.

However, this does not account for games that focus on education and health, not to mention training across a spectrum of industries.
