Working Out Sucks! (And Why it Doesn’t Have to)
Okay, the confetti’s been swept up and the resolutions have been made. The question is, “How many of those resolutions have been broken?” Hey, it’s the fifth of January already, how good do we have to be?
Every new year, millions of people resolve to get healthy, lose weight, and get in shape. It’s an easy resolution to make (aren’t they all?), but keeping it is a different challenge. For some of us, that should read “impossible challenge.” Working Out Sucks! (and why it doesn’t have to) is a new fitness book especially for people who have given up on that impossible challenge.
Authors Chuck Runyon, Brian Zehetner, and Rebecca A. Derossett are all actively involved in Anytime Fitness, based in Hastings, Minnesota. Runyon is cofounder and CEO, Zehetner is health director as well as a registered dietitian and certified strength and conditioning specialist, and Derossett is an executive coach. They reject the most common excuse for not adhering to fitness resolutions, “I don’t have enough time.” Runyon professes that “fitness can be achieved at anytime.”
Four years ago I broke my heel and ankle and simultaneously thought “Good, now I don’t have to go to the gym anymore.” While Working Out Sucks! (and why it doesn’t have to) may never be able to convince me to work out (because I don’t want to), it offers assistance that I can use: strategies to deprogram bad diet, exercise, and attitude habits.
For those who would like to work out, who don’t mind working out but don’t get around to it, or have seriously been considering working out, Working Out Sucks! (and why it doesn’t have to) explains the physical benefits achieved through fitness, and offers a 21-day health and fitness plan that includes meal planning and a fitness plan “that pairs resistance training and cardio with flexibility exercises adaptable to skill level and schedule.” There are tips to “exercise the mind” and learn how to “use physical movement to spark creativity.”
Working Out Sucks! (and why it doesn’t have to) is a motivational book for those who need a bit of a push in a healthy direction. It offers encouragement through inspiring stories, simple suggestions for healthier living, and a you-can-do-it philosophy. (Publications date: January 1, 2012)
