Deal UnSealed: Heidi Klum Splits With Husband
The news that supermodel Heidi Klum has split from her husband, singer Seal, was a shock to many.
Often seen as one of the few celebrity couples that really cared for one another, the two are sadly going their separate ways after four children and seven years of marriage.
“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate,” the couple stated jointly in an announcement to People Magazine on Sunday.
Asking for privacy for the sake of their children, the former couple remained otherwise tight-lipped at the cause of the split.
The stunning Victoria’s Secret model and star of Project Runway, and Grammy-winning soul singer Seal surprised many when they started their relationship in 2004.
After marrying in 2005, the then-happy couple welcomed their children Henry, now 6, Johan, 5 and Lou, 2, into their marriage. Seal also took on the responsibility for Klum’s daughter Leni, now 7, when the couple wed. Klum was pregnant by former boyfriend Flavio Briatore when she married Seal. By all accounts, the couple seemed happier than most celebrity pairings, with many observers saying that their love was clearly “the real thing.” That’s why the announcement of their split is so confusing.
Stating that they have “grown apart,” the couple remains tight-lipped about the specifics behind their decision. Regardless, the rumor mill is rife with speculation about what caused the breakup. Some sources blame Seal’s apparent issues with anger, while others wonder about infidelity. Regardless, the deed has been done and the marriage is over.
Perhaps the shock at the breakup is in part due to the fact that this couple seemed to be different. Their love for each other was celebrated yearly as they renewed their vows on the anniversary date of their marriage. Their very public proclamation of their ongoing commitment to each other seemed to be a sign that all was well in the marriage. Unfortunately, this was not the case as the relationship is now over. Many will continue to hope that these two will reconcile, but just as many will likely say “I told you so,” as they use this failed marriage as yet another example of the inability of the rich and famous to stay together until death do they part. As with any relationship, it is only the two participants who really know what happened and why things didn’t work out. For the rest of us, we’ll continue to wonder how something that seemed so solid could crumble and break with no apparent plan for reconciliation anywhere in sight.
