Demian Bichir: A Star On The Rise - Page 2
The tone in Bichir’s voice was an unsurprising revelation as to how truly gracious a man he is.
“The whole thing is surreal. I’m just a Mexican actor who grew up playing soccer in the streets and watching these big guys in these films and being inspired by them. To be nominated and be one of those five names in a place where there is so much talent is already a big award.”
Although it may seem as though the film just came out, A Better Life was actually released in selected theaters during the summer of 2011. It is only recently that the film has gained a tremendous amount of momentum and rightfully so. This film is something everyone should and must watch at least once in their lives.
“We lost the first round at the box office and something weird is happening. A lot of people are picking it up on iTunes and Netflix. Now after all the attention from the Spirit and SAG nominations, more and more people are jumping into it. That your biggest hope as an actor, you want the film to be watched by as many people as possible and that’s exactly what’s been happening lately.”
Bichir gives credit where he feels it is due; he credits having been in the excellent hands of director Chris Weitz.
“I was very lucky to have Chris as a director; he took care of me all the way. You need an expert eye to create those moments. If I don’t have that sense of an intelligent director, I might not have those magic moments.” Bichir said modestly.
The film’s message is something that will resonate with audiences, Bichir further elaborates on the importance of the film’s need of getting the proper word of mouth.
“We need the film to get that attention, not for the awards but for how that changes things. If this film can create that change, then that would be great.”
People come to the United States from all over the world because this nation is looked upon as a land of opportunity. The views of this nation through the eyes of those who reside within it take their lives here for granted. This film very effectively shows that to anyone who watches it.Continued on the next page
