In today’s society, the news and social media landscape has been plagued with violence, endless discussion over a struggling economy and the protests in support of the 99% and the Occupy Wall Street movement. Let us take a break from this for more of the mind-numbing and puerile anecdotes of Kim Kardashian’s life.

As though it is a surprise to anyone, Kim Kardashian has dared to speak the d-word (divorce).

After a $20 million wedding in Montecito, California this past summer, Kardashian has decided that NBA player Kris Humphries of the New Jersey Nets is not the one for her.

Kardashian and Humphries began dating in October of last year and though it is perplexing they have for the most part dominated the gossip scene.

Apparently, there is sadness among fans of Kardashian and the NBA player as a couple. In that same respect, the very same people who are saddened by the split claim not to be surprised by it.

So… Why the sadness?

If people saw this coming, then what is there to be sad about? There are as many people out there who knew that this wouldn’t last as there are in the 99% category. Are they sad for Humphries? They can’t possibly be sad for Kardashian, there are plenty of other profitable relationships and potential marriages for her to run through, she’s still young and has her looks.

That’s right, the word profitable was used. Although the wedding had that $20 million price tag, neither Humphries nor Kardashian footed a dime for any of it and they made $17.9 million from the nuptials. The items included in the cost of this massive and massively ridiculous wedding were three $20,000 Vera Wang gowns, $400,000 worth of Perrier Jouet champagne which were given to guests for free, $10,000 wedding invitations from Lehr & Black and $750,000 in catering for 500 guests at the reception.
