Things We Learned From Rihanna’s Esquire Interview
Esquire Magazine named Rihanna its Sexiest Woman Alive and as with all her interviews there were some interesting and controversial things said in the interview. Here are just a few of the things we took away from the article.
Rihanna has moved on from the Chris Brown assault and is actually a fan of his. In her interview the singer wished nothing but the best to former boyfriend Chris Brown who used her face as a punching bag 2 years ago. “I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he's had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have,” she tells the magazine.
However while Rihanna may have moved on, the media on the other hand is not as forgiving. Writer Ross Mccammon referred to Chris as “the a--hole Chris Brown.”
RiRi as fans love to call her, actually smells of a mix of coconut and vanilla and not sex like her hit S&M and her various raunchy antics would suggest.
While the singer definitely smells great one not so great thing her interview revealed is that she uses alcohol as a coping mechanism. The singer says she “has to have” liquor for nerve because she takes entertaining the fans “very seriously.” Look I dunno about you but if I needed to have a drink before I did my job I’d go to therapy ASAP but hey…that’s just me!
Rihanna’s Esquire interview proved once again that the singer really doesn’t care what you or anyone else thinks. Any other artist would avoid saying she was a fan of her abusive ex-boyfriend’s music or admit to drinking to calm her nerves but Rihanna’s not interested in maintaining a squeaky-clean image.
Detractors of the singer have speculated that her tough-girl image is manufactured and she’s not really in charge but as writer Mccammon notes, when Rihanna’s assistant Jen tried to wrap up the interview RiRi “makes a pssst sound to grab Jen's attention. Then she jerks her head toward the entourage core's temporary field headquarters. So Jen gets up and goes back to where she was.” Yup Rihanna definitely runs her world!
