When Celebrity Relationships Turn Dangerous
Over the past year we have been exposed to the private lives of high-profile celebrities who have been struggling with relationship issues. It is not surprising that many people have opinions about these troubling circumstances.
One particular relationship that has graced the headlines in recent times is that of Mel Gibson and his girlfriend and mother to his infant daughter, Oksana Grigorieva. While it may be tempting to side with one spouse or the other, I am reminded of another such couple in a similar situation whose dispute ended in tragedy.
When I heard the angry sound of Mel Gibson's recorded voice on the phone, my first thought was that this is O.J. Simpson all over again. Thankfully, this fit of rage was broadcast for the world to hear — nothing else really matters. Nobody should care why the conversation was recorded or what financial motives were behind this act. While many have come to Mel Gibson's defense, including his ex-wife, it is simply irrelevant. Had he been standing in front of Oksana in that state of mind, who knows what would have happened.
While many to this day still debate whether OJ Simpson murdered Nicole Brown, sadly, the truth of the matter is that it doesn't take much to push someone over the edge. Society will continue to grapple with domestic violence. However, when the signs are so obvious, taking the safest possible path is clearly warranted.
