Angelina Jolie Slated To Star In Ridley Scott's Upcoming "Gucci" Film

Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Robin Hood) is in discussions with actress Angelina Jolie to star for an upcoming Fox 2000 project based on the real life drama and murder of Maurizio Gucci, of the Gucci fashion dynasty family.
Jolie, Oscar-winning Hollywood icon, mother of six and UN Ambassador is slated to play Patrizia Reggiani, ex-wife of murdered business man and Gucci fashion house head Maurizio Gucci. Gucci was shot by a hired hit man and Patrizia was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 26 years for her involvement in his murder (her sentence was reduced from 29 to 26 years based on court appeals).
So...Angelina will play a glamorous femme fatale in a movie involving assassins, high fashion and murder. It's good to see Angie branching out in her career, this role seems like a real stretch compared to her previous roles in films like Wanted, Laura Croft Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Salt.
Rumors are also circulating Scott has reached out to Leonardo DiCaprio to play Maurizio, though nothing formal is in place.
The film would center around the Gucci family's internal struggles and power plays as they attempt to regain the wealth and prominence in the fashion world they had enjoyed in the 70's and 80's. Variety.com offers a few details on the plot:
Squabbles hobbled the clan until Maurizio, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci, came out on top of a power struggle to run the family business. Just when he was about to reestablish the brand name by debuting a line designed by newcomer — and now film director — Tom Ford, Maurizio was gunned down in front of his Milan apartment in 1995.
Ridley Scott's proven to be a formidable force as a director and producer, it will be interesting to see if he can put together a project with powerhouses like Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio (though I don't see the resemblance.)
