Growing Up Is Hard in Young Adult (2011) - Page 2
Young Adult details Mavis’ downward spiral as she attempts to lure her unlurable ex-boyfriend back into her life (and bed). Threaded throughout are her efforts to complete the last in the series of vapid, high school-based novels that have been her writing career. Sadly, there is a very thin line between her and her character. Mining overheard conversations between teenagers for material, she incorporates their words into her relationships as well.
Written by Diablo Cody, Young Adult is sensitively directed by Jason Reitman. The Blu-ray and DVD editions includes commentary, “The Awful Truth: Deconstructing a Scene,” and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray also includes “Misery Loves Company: The Making of Young Adult” and a Q&A with Jason Reitman and Janet Maslin at the Jacob Burns Film Center. Both editions are enabled with Ultra-Violet cloud technology that allows streaming and downloading to a variety of devices.
