Lady Gaga to Make Film Debut (and Infuriate PETA) in ‘Machete Kills’
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Lady Gaga has taken up acting. The ‘Marry the Night’ singer announced today via twitter that she will be making her acting debut playing “La Chameleón” in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, the sequel to his 2010 film Machete, which itself was a spinoff off the cult hit Grindhouse. Rodriguez tweeted high praise for Gaga this afternoon saying, “I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!”
Ms. Gaga will be joined by an eclectic cast including Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba and even Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States. (Charlie Sheen playing the President could prove hilarious, disastrous, or both).
A poster has been released as promotion for the film, featuring a yellow-haired Mother Monster looking a bit like a deranged Marilyn Monroe, holding a smoking gun and wearing the carcass of a white wolf -complete with head and legs-as a fur stole. PETA will undoubtedly take issue with the costume, most likely labeling it a disgusting display of pretend animal cruelty, while others may find ironic humor in the over-the-top depiction of fur as murder. What do you think? Is the poster barbaric or just cheeky?
