Ten Reasons Why Katniss Everdeen Is Cooler Than Bella Swan
While November 22, 2013 (The release date for "Catching Fire") and November 16, 2012 (the release date of "Breaking Dawn Part 2") couldn't seem further away, an intense debate came up after "The Hunger Games" was released: Team Bella or Team Katniss?
1. The most obvious is that Katniss Everdeen is a certified bad ass. Seriously- she hunts, does archery, and takes care of Peeta Mellark in the woods. The ultimate underdog single-handedly upsets The Capitol. Did I mention that she's just sixteen?
2. Bella Swan is a selfish, whiny little brat. Katniss Everdeen, on the other hand, is "The Girl on Fire". She actually gives a damn about humanity! Katniss hunts for her family and even saves her sister from certain death by volunteering herself as tribute for The Hunger Games. Unlike the easily-manipulated and weak Bella, Katniss is strong, loyal, and true to her beliefs.
3. Bella Swan is also a horrible role model for young women. She has to be saved and her only problem is whether to date Jacob Black (a Native American werewolf) or Edward Cullen (the centenarian vampire who will always look seventeen. Did I mention he sparkles?). Oh my God! WHAT A CRISIS! Meanwhile, Katniss Everdeen has the government wanting her dead and a family to feed. Now that, my friends, is a real crisis.
4. While you shouldn't care about what a man thinks of you, here's a newsflash: most men HATE clingy women. Bella Swan EXEMPLIFIES clingy and bratty and it's pathetic! Katniss, on the other hand, has hobbies (archery, hunting, climbing trees, etc.), intelligence, natural beauty both inside and out, self-confidence, and independence. If I ever have a daughter, they will not be watching Twilight.
5. Bella Swan's character is not realistic at all. She has no real problems, marries her high school sweetheart, and is spoiled. Honestly, does that ever happen in real life?
Bella's main priority is how to change to make a man happy. Newsflash: a man should love you for who YOU are (and vice versa). Those relationships never work. As a reformed clingy female, I can personally tell you that most men find it pathetic to be waiting by the phone, chased, etc. Katniss, however, is realistic: she has problems in which she solves, she has friends, and she doesn't whine although her conditions are way worse than Bella Swan's.
