Allods Online

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? If a failed MMO announces a significant update, do gamers care?

Allods Online announced yesterday, April 25, Astral Odyssey, a significant update to the game, was live. It raises the level cap, gives classes new abilities, and opens up two new zones to explore.

Gamers everywhere yawned.

Allods released in 2010 to great fanfare and huge expectation. Gaia-Net said it was still in beta, but they said it with a wink. They told gamers all about the game's pedigree, about the great programming team behind Allods, and about all the money spent its development.

The hype and Allods' unapologetic similarities to World of Warcraft helped pull in a lot of people. Gamers showed up in droves to play Allods. People ventured into the free-to-play realm who had never played an F2P MMO, before.

After all, it was free-to-play. Why not give it a try?

They were epically disappointed.

Allods was laggy, buggy, and grindy. It lacked variety and it was tedious and boring.

All those people who played Allods at release are gone. Only the hardcore remain.

Allods Online announced a significant update, yesterday; The gaming public doesn't care.
