(09-03-2012) Angry Birds! fans are getting a special Rock-n-Roll treat today to celebrate the birthday of legendary Queen lead singer and songwriter, Freddie Mercury.

A new animation of the famous Queen track, Bicycle Race,! featuring a Freddie character complete with famous mustache, was released at 5am today to celebrate Mercury's May 5th birthday with his very own Bird's character.

Rovio Entertainment CMO Peter Vesterbacka said, "'Freddie for a Day is such a great way to honor Freddie's fun and flamboyant spirit while delivering an important message, and we're delighted to be supporting them in our own Angry Birds style. Queen's music has endured for a reason, because its creativity and contagious fun appeals to fans of all ages, and we're happy to help keep Freddie's memory and music alive for new generations of fans."

The original single of Bicycle Race! was released in 1978 and written by Mercury after he saw The Tour de France. The accompanying music video, was banned in several countries because it featured nude women, partly obscured with special effects, racing bicycles at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. This new version would most likely be rated G although the Angry Birds are not wearing clothes either.

The official announcement for this year's Freddie event declared, "It doesn't take being famous to be a part in Freddie For A Day. All you need to decide is whether you are bold enough to go for a full sparkly body leotard, head-to-toe PVC biker leathers, or simply to stick with aviator sunglasses and of course.... that 'stache! Comic Relief has the red nose, Freddie For A Day has the famous bristles."

The Mercury Phoenix Trust was founded in 1992 by Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor and Queen manager Jim Beach to help distribute money raised from the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS awareness. Since then, the Trust has raised over $15 million to help in the fight against AIDS worldwide.

Proceeds from limited-edition T-shirts and other merchandise will help raise funding for the Mercury Phoenix AIDS awareness project globally.
