LA Developers, E3 Attendees Invited to Privacy Summit by App Developers Alliance
The Application Developers Alliance (ADA), a nonprofit services organization dedicated to supporting software developers across platforms and languages, announced plans to hold their Privacy Summit tomorrow evening (Tuesday June 5th, 2012) at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica. This also happens to be the venue city for the biggest video game convention of the year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), and the ADA hopes to target Los Angeles area developers attending the show. Inviting developers, publishers, mobile advertisers, and other industry stakeholders to a roundtable conversation and networking event about app privacy, along with an open bar and happy hour to follow. The series will also be making stops in Orange County and San Diego on June 6th, allowing for more developers and industry experts to join the conversation. 
The ADA's Privacy Summit Series addresses specific issues affecting perhaps the video game market more than any, with legislators and regulators making privacy decisions that directly impact how developers do their jobs, sometimes making it more difficult, and costly, if for example, your 'recommendation engine' operates on old customer data. You only have to look as far as Netflix's recent agreement to delete former users' video history, and the $9Mil class action lawsuit from former customers crying foul, to see how important privacy decisions are to application developers.
The roundtable discussion and networking event is being locally co-hosted by CBS Interactive, MEDL Mobile and Mobile Deluxe.Leaders of the discussion include Richard Qiu, VP of Business Development for TRUSTe; Josh Hartwell, CEO of Mobile Deluxe; Pam Dixon, the Executive Director of the World Privacy Forum; Dennis Lee, CEO of PlayUp USA; Ilan Goldman, Head of Safety, Security & Privacy at Gogii; and Tim Sparapani, Senior Advisor for Policy and Law at the ADA.
TRUSTe CEO, Chris Babel said on the benefit app developers will get by attending, "By proactively addressing privacy management and building trust with their app users, developers can increase the adoption of their apps and help ensure the long-term success of the industry."
