Living with Skyrim

The widely anticipated and renowned RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been on the market for nearly a month now, and with gamers of all ages getting a little too involved with the captivating fantasy worlds that RPGs can offer, it’s worth discussing how much time in-game is too much.
After only ten minutes of gameplay, it becomes evidently clear that Skyrim is one of the most impressive games of the year; soon after an opening sequence that throws you straight into the action, you are set free across the northern region of Tamriel, and it is at this point which fans of ‘The Elder Scrolls’ will get that old familiar feeling; freedom! It is this freedom which makes Skyrim unlike most other games; there are no limits to where you can go and what you can do. For unkindly actions there are just consequences; be it an awkward eye in the street or a fast track ticket to the city jail.
Immersing yourself in this world can be a truly enthralling experience; Skyrim becomes more interesting and impressive when you really start to put the time in, with new abilities, attire, weapons, and enemies are revealed to you as you fine tune and progress with your chosen character. With heavy improvements to graphics and voice acting, the world in which Skyrim is set certainly makes for a captivating gaming experience, and at times it’s easy to spend too long seeking your fortune and hunting dragons. With these immersive RPGs it is important to remember just how quickly time can pass, and many gamers can overdo it a little when it comes to total hours spent in the game.
Overplaying large RPG games such as Skyrim can cause gamers to miss out on school, work or social activities, so be sure to calculate how much disposable time you have to play without compromising on your priorities. Gaming should always remain a recreational activity; never let a game eat in to the time which you have reserved for work, friends or family. Be sure to take regular breaks if you have a free day to play, get out of the house for a little fresh air and sunshine when possible and never play in excess of five hours in one sitting. Five hours may seem a little extreme to casual games, but rest assured immersive RPGs such as Skyrim can easily make a five hour session seem like two hours at most.
