That Addictive Tamagotchi? It Lives Again, on Your Phone
Does the word Tamagotchi strike fear in the more productive side of you? Or make your toes wiggle happily in your shoes? Then prepare to have your life taken over, again.
If you're a child of the 90's, you remember Tamagotchi pets, those colorful ovals chiming away, pocket-sized electronic children calling to you, from dawn to dusk, cute, insatiable time-suckers. They would let you know when they needed to be cared for, often in increasingly annoying ways. I saw many a young girl being pulled, beep after incessant beep, red-eyed and tearful, toward the edge of parental madness.
And just as they rose to steal every bleeding second of every schoolgirl's day, the Tamagotchi simply vanished to the wayside, as do so many other toys to those with short attention spans. Many simply made their way into waste cans, orphaned for lack of love. Or was it patience?
Well, the Tamagotchi is back, and in full force. The company that brought you the portable time-monsters has realized that they can give our children the same semi-parental experience of raising a hyperactive, uber-needy virtual child, but without the expensive overhead of manufacturing actual plastic devices.
Yes, Tamagotchi has jumped on the app bandwagon. According to their blog, the soon-to-be-released app is called Tamagotchi L.i.f.e., and has a growing list of customizable features.
From wallpapers to color schemes, mini games within the app, saved multiple Tamagotchis to retro play, the company is featuring additional ways to enjoy the app each day on their blog.
Before the cell phone, Tamagotchis were the bane of every school teacher, trying to compete for our dwindling attention spans. They were the reason our parents had to call a second and third time up the stairs for us to come to dinner. With Tamagotchi's pending app release, your child (or you) can continue the trend of getting on everybody else's nerves on your iOS or Android mobile device. To get an email letting you know when you can download your child's future needy baby, register on Tamagotchi's subscription page.
One more reason to step out of a business meeting (your Tamagotchi needs feeding).
