Drew Barrymore Tops People's Most Beautiful 100
People Magazine has released their World's Most Beautiful list and Drew Barrymore graces the cover. She talks about what makes her feel beautiful and how turning 30 has affected her outlook. She was also awarded a CoverGirl contract for what they call her "fresh natural beauty" and "energetic yet authentic spirit." How does Drew feel about these kinds of kudos? In her inimitable quirky-zen and always sincere style, she says:
"[It] made my peacock feathers shine in the golden-hour light and extend to the heavens."
"There's something great about real life. You know, what you see is what you get. Some days I feel preppy. Some days I feel rock 'n' roll. Some days I feel hippie. Some days I feel glamorous. Some days I feel like a rebellious 13-year-old boy. And I think all are acceptable."
When does Drew feel most beautiful:
"Right after I've worked out and I'm sweating all over the place and my face is two different colors of white and red and my hair is half wet, half dry and I look like I'm about to have a heart attack. I feel like I've changed the shape of my body temporarily into something more flexible and strong."
What makes a person beautiful in Drew's eyes:
"I just think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period. Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect that happiness. If somebody walks in the room and they're drop-dead gorgeous and sexy, it's really fun to look at. But if someone is giving of their spirit and they make you laugh and feel good, that's a whole other level of beauty."
And when does she feel least beautiful, her response is not-surprising coming from the earthy beauty:
"When someone makes a really snap judgment. It just feels below the belt. . . . You just feel kind of corroded and gross inside. I think that ends up reflecting on the way your face looks. "
Drew also mentioned those pesky changes that happen when you turn 30, but offered a personal beauty tip (I love those!):
"For some reason, since I turned 30 this little crew comes in the middle of the night and they sew little sausages under my eyes! I found some great new eye patches that are so awesome. They're by Talika. They just take away the puffiness. You put them on for 20 minutes and they're genius."
What a great choice for People's Most Beautiful. Drew is gorgeous, but not in a superficial way. She exudes an inner calm and joy that makes her true beauty (the kind that's inside) come through. Drew is special. Not too many child actors who've battled addiction and gone through rehab in their TWEENS come out the other end with their senses, humility, talent and beauty intact. Drew was saddled with a stage-mother who used Drew's fame to get into Hollywood's elite clubs and bars. Rather than shielding her daughter from the evil-side of Hollywood, Drew's mom exploited her own daughter for personal gain. Sort of like Dina Lohan, but 20 years earlier. Drew's inner strength must be made of otherworldly matter, for she is one of the most grounded people in Hollywood and has served her famous lineage well. Continued on the next page
