Isaac Hayes, the award winning singer, composer and musician has died. He would have turned 66 on August 20. Hayes was pronounced dead at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis on Sunday, August 10th, about an hour after he was found by a family member. The cause of death is not known at this time. According to the sheriffs office, authorities received a 911 call after his wife and young son and his wife's cousin returned home from shopping. He was found collapsed in a downstairs bedroom, near a treadmill. Hayes is best known for his Number one 1971 hit "Theme from Shaft" from the film "Shaft" starring Richard Roundtree. In 1997, Hayes became the voice of Chef, the school cook on the animated T.V. show "South Park". Hayes abruptly left the show in 2006 after an episode "Trapped In The Closet" mocked his Scientology religion and fellow Scientologists Tom Cruise and John Travolta. Hayes had become "CLEAR" in 2002 and again in 2003. (scientology claims that a "Clear" no longer has a reactive mind, and is free of psychosomatic illnesses and aberrations). Whatever the reason for Hayes's death, apparently Scientology couldn't help him with that. Scientology makes claims of curing people of a variety of illnesses, including adherents who've been diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, we have heard of many followers needlessly dying from serious illnesses that otherwise could have been treated with conventional Western medicine, but were prevented from doing so by their Scientology beliefs. RIP Isaac, the world is a little less "cool" with you gone. (special thanks to Tony and Paul for contributing this article)
