Elodie Berta, the French nanny, has left, too, after 15 months' service. And Madonna's driver, Alistair Mitchell, jumped ship when she split with Guy Ritchie and now works for him.
The women Madonna has lost have played a very important role in Madonna's life over the past few years. One wonders if this state of flux counted against her application to take Mercy home.
But the person who will truly suffer is little Mercy, who is too young to know what this is all about but old enough to know that something big was going on. She was uprooted out of the orphanage she was living in and taken to reside in a luxurious hotel; now she must return to the orphanage. She had met and spent time with Madonna, her daughter Lourdes, and her sons Rocco and David (who is from the same country, even though he does not speak anything but English), with the goal of their leaving the country as a family; now she must leave them. Madonna was so convinced that this was a slam-dunk that she now has undoubtedly made a little innocent girl's life a mixed-up mess.
If Madonna truly wanted to help the citizens of Malawi, she could have not spent a truckload of money on her own private planes, treadmills, wines, and other luxury items that most people in the country have never even dreamed of; she could have given that money to charity. Instead of trying to steal away one child to try and create her own designer family, she could have given that money to help all children in the country to have a better future. But that wouldn't be Madonna getting her own way...and that is the most important thing to her, regardless of the cost to Mercy and her family.
Yes, the people in Malawi are suffering, but I really don't think Madonna is the answer. I have a feeling that if their adoption laws had been stricter and more clearly defined, she never would have tried to "help" them to start with.
