Some Punks Never Die: The Buzzcocks Celebrate 30 Years Of Rock At SXSW

If you've been wondering what the classic British pop-punkers The Buzzcock's have been up to, you are either really cool, old or both.
It seems like just yesterday that I was lamenting how eggregious it is that certain bands have never been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, including the long overdue Buzzcocks. But that didn't keep them from performing and kicking ass at what is the modern day music festival for all things cool, SXSW in Austin Texas.
Bands from all over the globe come to showcase and play for hordes of crowds, including rock journalists, bloggers and mainstream media.
The Buzzcocks were presented at SXSW by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell who noted how influencial Pete Shelley and company have been over the years.
The band, which formed 30 years ago in 1976, celebrated this achievement getting to play to fans half their age. How incredibly awesome that a whole new generation of music fans should get exposed to some of the greatest punk music ever created.Â
The Buzzcocks SXSW set included, "Orgasm Addict," "Sick City Sometimes," "Promises" and their classic "Ever Fallen In Love."
Back in the day, when I was a fledgling punker complete with my head shaved on the sides and a ducktail for good measure, it was a much cooler punk rock girl who introduced me to the Buzzcocks. Before that mindblowing experience, I assumed punkrock was atonal aural assaults on the mind and ears, like what I heard from the overrated Sex Pistols. From that moment on, I knew that the best punk music was melodic, tuneful and inspiring.Â
