What Britney's VMA Performance Was Supposed To Look Like

If you remember, Britney couldn't be bothered to come down from her suite to rehearse, because she was too busy knocking back frozen margaritas.
So, they had a stand-in dancer do her routine. The routine is mostly shot from a distance, but you can see some major differences. I read that they had to "dumb down" the routine that was originally planned, and then once Brit finally started rehearsing they had to take out even more, most noticeably the lift at the end. And you'll notice that for some of the more difficult moves, the camera panned to the audience. Plus, her trust fall was off by four beats, which is probably why the end was off (the stand-in ended the song facing forward, Brit ended it facing backward).
But it does prove that the crotch grab wasn't an ad-lib (as I saw one blogger say) and that her backup dancers were killer.
