Album Review: Chase & Status No More Idols
After ten tons of EPs, chart hits and one stunning and glorious debut album More Than A Lot Chase & Status have launched themselves above the Earth from their bedroom days. Creating awareness for now many recognisable artists such as Kano, that Plan B chap whom you may have heard of and now very recently a Nottingham lad, Liam Bailey with their single release Blind Faith as well as the passionate voicebox of Mali who is featured on Let You Go. Chase & Status return after globe trotting to various studios across the planet and producing Rihanna they are releasing their second album No More Idols to mass anticipation.
A good few of the tracks on the album have been hitting the charts and sweeping throughout clubland for a short while. Looking at the collaborations it almost a who's who of the current chart elite. Recent UK Number One artist Cee-Lo Green, White Lies, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, recent start vocalist Claire Maguire and that chap again called Plan B.
Drum and bass weaves within the seriously cranial thumping vibrations with stomping dubstep, some electrifying guitar riffs, ferocious drops and the occasional wobble that will tilt the planet slightly off it's axis.
This is precision work, this is hardcore stuff and these are delightful harmonies.
Some of the sweetest pieces I've heard resemble "Pieces" from the last album. Intro's with a subtle strumming of acoustic guitar then shrouded with synths, building up the melody and then slamming down the basslines with the utmost effect. If you listen to "Flashing Lights ft Sub Focus and Takura" on your headphones your mind will almost overdose on the natural endorphins that become emitted from your brain. It is very eclectic stuff.
Clever timing too with the "White Lies" being included on the tracklisting with their album being released only last week. "Embrace ft White Lies" is a damn sight better than the "Death remix" from two years ago.
Musically at this point in time, Chase & Status are currently the Daddies in the widespread spectrum of the dance music genre. Will & Saul are hot property with everyone wanting to work with them. I can't imagine them being able to get any holidays at any point soon. Excellent work.
No More Idols by Chase & Status is out tomorrow.
