American Express Unstaged: Coldplay Rocks In Madrid

It’s normally the wonderful world of film and fantasy where there is a massive takeover of Time Square in the heart of New York; not this time. American Express Unstaged is known for bringing together some of the most powerful and influential musical artists of our time and pairing them with the crème de la crème of film directors. October 26, 2011 was no exception.
Last night was the 6th installment of the popular livestream series of American Express Unstaged. Past installments have featured the immense talents of Arcade Fire, John Legend & The Roots, Sugarland, Duran Duran and My Morning Jacket.
Last night, Coldplay performed live from Madrid at the historic Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas.
Coldplay is the first artist to be featured within the newly launched Amex Entertainment channel on the American Express Facebook page.
Fans were in for a treat with all of the pre-show content.
Flight to Madrid, a music video project within the Unstaged project, gave music fans the opportunity to contribute their art to the awesome sound of Coldplay. The project invited submissions of butterflies both animated and still images that show up on the large screen behind the performance. The significance of the butterfly, no doubt ties to the group’s 2005 hit song.
There were over 50,000 butterflies submitted.
The online pre-show was a documentary directed by Anton Corbijn to help add to the excitement and anticipation of the show.
There was also a unique piece called “Graffiti,” in which American Express and Coldplay ran a series of Q&A interviews. The band’s answers will be interpreted into graffiti artwork created by renowned street artists.
