Best Band You've Never Heard Of: Urizen

Urizen is a very unique band. A few months ago, I had the privilege of going to one of their shows when they were at The Juggling Gypsy in Wilmington, North Carolina and their work is very original. By original, let me clarify something: their sound is very "out there" and fits with their nerdy "outer space" get up. I am very curious as to what inspires their music (hint: I'm convinced it's more than just their minds but, how's that my business?). Regardless, they are truly fabulous.

They put on a great show- very theatrical and full of edgy excitement. It's very obvious that, as strange as they are, they are passionate about their music and know how to make an audience go crazy using some very unconventional tactics!

Seeing as how unconventional these guys are, I think that there is a reason why the symbolism of "boxes" comes up so much. The Texas-based avant-metal band obviously values their noncomformity. "Boxmen", one of my favorite songs by Urizen, is driven by very powerful and frustrated lyrics that sound like they come from someone who feels pressured to
conform to society.

Click here to listen to their latest single, "Boxmakers". The powerful vocals, distorted guitars, and sounds from an apocalyptically futuristic video game blend into an amazing song.
