Black Crowes' Chris Robinson Says Taylor Swift "Horrible"
Roots rocker Chris Robinson, front man to the Black Crowes (and former husband to actress Kate Hudson) had some not very nice things to say about teen country sensation Taylor Swift.
During an interview with Nylon Magazine, Robinson said this about multi-Grammy winner Swift:
"I find it embarrassing that adults are like, 'Taylor Swift is very talented.' She's not. She might be cute, but she's horrible,"Chris then went on to complain about today's crop of "manufactured artists:"
"They have stylists who dress them, they make records with producers who play a chord into the computer and it all comes out the same...When you have computers doing it all for you...there's no individuality. Singing isn't always about being on key; it's about emotionality."
So a couple things need to be pointed out. First of all, Chris Robinson and his band haven't had a hit in like 15 years, so it's a little disingenuous for him to be commenting on any current popular artists. Another bit of insincerity is using a young girl, who creates music for an entirely different demographic than his band, to gain some media attention. How f*cking creepy is that? There's plenty of shite music out there in his genre he can point to as manufactured and embarrassing. But hey, that's how the PR game is played. When you can't get attention through your talent, throw someone who's on top under the bus. Talk about horrible.
Now, that said, he's mostly right about Taylor. She is an awfully cute and sweet girl who happens to write cheesy, simple ballads about growing up, boys, life and so on. She's not a great singer, that's been proven. Her live vocals don't match up to the studio version. But that can be said about a lot of today's female singers. Most of them are performers, not singers. However, Taylor writes many of her own songs, and can play guitar — and she knows her audience. She also seems pretty grounded and willing to take the whole fame game in stride. So, I am not going to hate on her. There are far worse people to pick on than Taylor.
Honestly, Chris, you should be ashamed. How about you pick on someone your own size next time, you dried up, resentful, hateful old fartbag. Your music sucked then, and it sucks now. Go smoke a blunt and quite hating on the kiddies; it's desperate and your intentions are obvious.
