Bon Jovi's New Album Provides a Release of Good Medicine
Bon Jovi has released a new single from a new upcoming album and, well, its awesome. I must admit to some bias here. I have been a Bon Jovi fan for 26 years. I first heard You Give Love a Bad Name on a compilation cassette called Summer ’87. I was 12 years old. I played that song over and over and decided that I had to have more of Bon Jovi. I waited almost six months for my mother to give in to my incessant nagging and buy me ‘Slippery When Wet’. Of course by this time I had a small mix tape of Bon Jovi songs that I had diligently taped from the radio. I taped every interview, sound bite and song that I heard. I religiously listened to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 every weekend as I was guaranteed to hear Bon Jovi. They were taking over the world with their addictive and uplifting rock music, relatable lyrics and unbeknownst to them, a little girl in suburban Australia was along for the ride.
Before the internet, I would ride my purple bike to the tiny local newsagency, who stocked such essential 1980’s teenage resources such as Tiger Beat. They began stocking special editions of magazines that where, much to my delight, ALL about Bon Jovi. I still have them all today. I can’t part with such an important aspect of my coming of age as my Bon Jovi magazines and my scrapbooks, all articles and pictures lovingly cut out and pasted carefully during hours of listening to Slippery When Wet over and over in my room, reveling in the music. I never felt alone as a teenager. No matter what was happening in my life, I had Bon Jovi as my constant.
So fast forward some twenty years and my obsession has never wavered. I still remember like yesterday the concerts I have been to and the memorabilia I have collected and the songs, the songs that I can lose myself in at any given moment and that are still so relevant. I have grown up with Bon Jovi and they have grown up right along with me.
So you can imagine my barely contained excitement when I heard that Bon Jovi was releasing a new single. Oh yes it still makes me burst with excitement all these years on. This latest offering is called Because We Can. When I heard it I was pleased. Bon Jovi never disappoint in the catchy, uplifting beat department. My mood was instantly buoyed by the passionate conviction of Jon Bon Jovi that I can do what I darn well please, anything I set my mind to, Because We Can. I am unsure that Mr Bon Jovi would appreciate me drawing a parallel to earlier works so soon upon this song’s release but I cannot help but liken the message to that within the King & Queen of uplifting and inspirational Bon Jovi songs; Its My Life & Livin’ on a Prayer. These songs are powerful in their messages of hope and believing in oneself. Those three songs on repeat will give you an ironclad sense of self worth and the unfailing confidence that you can achieve what you set out to, if you truly believe in yourself.Continued on the next page
