Concert Review: Elliott Yamin Serves Atlanta Hot East Coast Soul at Smith's Olde Bar
In 2006, American Idol not only had one of its highest rated seasons, it also introduced the world to Elliott Yamin--one of the few contestants to win the respect of the show's usually snipish and snide Simon Cowell, who even went so far as to call Elloitt's performance a "vocal masterclass."
I'll admit that only rarely do I agree with the show's resident judge-antagonist, but in the case of Elliott Yamin there's no doubt that Simon Cowell had it right. And to prove the point even further, Elliott went on the following year to release his self-titled debut album which opened at #3 on the Billboard Top 200, the highest independent debut by a new arist. It wasn't long before Elliott Yamin's single, "Wait for You" was certified platinum.
Elliott Yamin - Wait For You (Video)
On September 25th, Elliott Yamin hit Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta in support of his latest independent release, Gather Round. Featuring an amazing band and well-stocked with his own singular brand of pop-drenched-in-R&B music, Elliott delivered a crushing performance: Soulful and energetic, playful and poignant--with a little dash of funk thrown in to spice things up. This is a show that no one should miss.
Elliott Yamin is a performing tour-de-force; his passionate, gut-wrenching vocal talents combined with his charming, humorous and humble personality are absolutely irresistible. If cookie-cutter, pretty-boy pop stars are a dying breed, then Elliott Yamin is definitely a person of interest. And thankfully so.
