Drunk Souls: French Reggae-Infused Rock
The Marseilles-based indie reggae-infused rock band, Drunk Souls, has been described as an exhilarating ride. Their debut album generated over 100,000 downloads, and the group have enjoyed comparisons to Manu Chao, Gorillaz, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Human Race" is the newest single from the critically acclaimed Drunksouls CD "Revolution". Djamil Ramdane and Julien Mur are the two core members. The additional members are: Pierre Pesin (Trumpet), Jean Marc Layani (Keyboards), Fred Albertini(Bass), Julien Heurtel(Drums), Morello(Trombone), Philippe Bonnacier, and Kevin Garcia.
The Drunk Souls have generated over 100,000 downloads of their debut through word-of-mouth.
Their new music video "Human Race" gained so much buzz they have recently signed with HIP Video Promo, who promoted Johnny Cash's "Hurt" music video and have also worked with Bon Iver, Of Montreal and Death Cab For Cutie. Interestingly, eight songs by Drunksouls are used in the multi-award winning documentary "I Believe I Can Fly", a beautifully shot documentary about the Skyliners, a team of French adventurers who specialize in high-line tightrope walking, basejumping, and mountaineering (trailer). The film is directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset.
Founded in 2002, Drunk Souls are a French reggae-infused rock band that is similar to Manu Chao, Gorillaz, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Damian Marley. They pride themselves on their ability to both make you dance and think. Their songs, sometimes playful and sometimes dark, carry a message of reconciliation and tolerance.
I personally enjoyed their album, "Revolution". One of my favorite songs is "J'ai Fait Un Reve". Granted, I speak three languages to varying degrees (French being one of them) so, I could more or less understand what they were saying. In English, "J'ai Fait Un Reve" translates to "I have a dream". The song seems to speak about how the ideas of the people should influence government. In general, the album has a very relaxed- almost tropically cathartic-feel. This is the perfect music to accompany you on a trip to the beach.
