Get Jack Dempsey - Page 5
“I highly doubt that” I tell her.
“I’ve not slept since our gig in Regent’s Park on Friday.” She tells me, referring to the surprise performance she and Jack did in London with a local gospel choir after spending the afternoon with filmmaker Peter Von Puttkamer and biologist/TV host Niall Mccann (of Discovery Channel’s BIGGEST and BADDEST) . “It’s not that we partied it’s just that I absolutely LOVE it there and it was such a magical time– we didn’t want to sleep!”
“We were walking back to the hotel from dinner on Sunday night and there were guys dressed as angels hanging from wires above Piccadilly Circus dropping millions of white fluffy feathers all over London. Everyone was having a feather fight and jumping around and laughing.”
“Jack is so awkward in social situations and didn’t know what to do; so me and a couple of locals covered him in a mountain of feathers. It was awesome.”
We chat for a bit about her recent trip; and about their upcoming dates in Germany, Belgium, France and Poland.
I ask her how Jack enjoyed England and whether or not he’s looking forward to the next leg of their promotional tour.
“Jack’s always the same regardless of where we are or what we’re doing. It is impossible to tell if he’s excited about anything. It’s a part of him; I just stopped trying to understand. I could say, ‘Hey Jack! We got booked for a show on the Moon!’ And he’d say something like, “Well, best dress warm, I hear it’s cold,” with absolutely no shred of irony in his voice. It drives me nuts sometimes!”
“He sounds like a funny guy?” I tell her.
“He is,” she responds, “He has a very subtle sense of humor and one that a lot of people don’t get, but if you do...”
“Sounds like you make him laugh.” I say.
“Yeah, he thinks I’m a fucking riot.” She tells me.
“So how’d you guys meet,” I ask, “Rumor has it you met at the diner at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles – that is so classic.”
“I know right – Girl gets off train to Hollywood with stars in her eyes and meets Svengali at the station. Yeah, that’s pretty much how it happened. Only thing is I had already been living in LA for a while and was coming back from visiting a friend. I basically stepped off in downtown Los Angeles and into Jack Dempsey’s world.”
