Grammy Bound: A Last Look at Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Although contrary to the moody atmosphere of the movie itself, the soundtrack for the latest installment in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, Eclipse, released June 8, 2010 by Summit/Chop Shop/Atlantic, proves to be just as multi-dimensional, driven and charismatic as the film that inspired it. It also follows well the previous soundtracks which featured an incredible array of musical talents like Linkin Park, The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Paramore and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The Twilight Saga soundtracks have managed to break through the stigma formally attached to the motion picture soundtrack genre--due in large part to author Stephenie Meyer's very cool, alternative taste in music.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack is a musical union featuring some of the best new, and seasoned, artists from a variety of backgrounds; brilliantly, their musical expertise has been expanded upon, pulling out amazing, unexpected performances that celebrate their unique talents and break through the barrier of stereotype. Crossing fluidly between retro and alternative, Twilight Saga: Eclipse is the kind of album that can be put on auto-play and enjoyed in its entirety. Honestly. It's hard to believe this is a movie soundtrack.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack has also received the Grammy nomination for "Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media" and on February 13, 2011 it will be going head-to-head against Crazy Heart, Glee: The Music, Volume 1, Treme and True Blood - Volume 2 for the top spot.
The Grammy nomination came for Twilight Saga: Eclipse, even as the first two soundtracks, Twilight - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and New Moon maintained their places on the Billboard charts, showing no signs of budging. The eclectic mix of artists and the diverse song offerings have allowed these soundtracks to maintain their relevance, and their album sales--and having an artist roster that reads like a Billboard Alternative chart doesn't hurt either.
As with the first two soundtracks, you needn't be a fan of the Twilight movies to enjoy this album; filled with infectious, driving rhythms and outstanding musical performances, Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an album that can stand on its own, with or without the movie to back it up.
