Jus Cuz: On Creating A Music Video With A Message
The realization that we can receive something special from modern day entertainment is a truly rare and beautiful thing.
Yes, there are many types of different messages that one can receive from the things that we see and hear. Are all of them positive? No, that’s the not-so-good part.
The entertainment industry has become the traditional source for guilty pleasure, whether it is in the form of music or television; most do not promote the most wholesome lifestyle. Can a music video be enjoyable if it encouraged one to think about things a little more than they typically do?
The answer is yes.
Jus Cuz has just released a new music video from their song Girlfriend featuring Day. This song is another great one on an entire album of great music; there isn’t just the one standout, the entire album is a must-hear.
A.D. Skolar (Adrien Odate) shares what he and the other half of Jus Cuz, Young MiScHiFf (Ernst Bernard) had envisioned for the story behind the song Girlfriend as well as the album PM2AM.
“Girlfriend is one of the first records we did together for the PM2AM album,” A.D. said. “It’s an intricate part of the whole story that the album tells. It started as our ‘so-called girl record,’ but developed into so much more.”
The Girlfriend video adds poignant visuals to a song with lyrics and a tone that is indicative of a struggle in defining what is considered the right thing at the right moment. A.D. elaborates.
“It’s about the struggle between being with the one you love and doing what you love; a theme that doesn’t only pertain to musicians or artists, but anyone who is passionate about their craft. We can get so lost in the pursuit of that which we love so dearly, that we lose track of caring for the ones who support us through that pursuit.”Continued on the next page
