Starfucker: More Than Just A Stupid Name
Starfucker is one of the most unique bands to come out of Portland in a very long time! They are an indie electro-pop group comprised of Joshua Hodges, Shawn Glassford, Keil Corcoran, and Patrick Morris. They were originally formed in 2007 and are still going strong today. They have publicly stated that they chose the name "Starfucker" to see just how far they could go with "a stupid name like that".
Starfucker has been described as dance music that you can actually listen and dance to. Instead of booming beats and thumping, they actually sound like music. The use of the synthesizer in the opening of "Isabella of Castile" gives the song a majestic quality of floating on air. The song "Florida" is very interesting because it uses recordings of famous philosopher, Alan Watts, at various points in the song. Their music is uniquely interesting to say the least. In general, it is much more mellow and easy to listen to than other electronic music.
