The Best Band You've Never Heard Of: The Young Rapscallions

While I grew up appreciating many types of music, there are few bands that I truly like and respect. Creativity drives most music and can be manifested in many ways, such as fornication in music videos, crazy costumes, and strange vocals. However, the truly talented bands don't need that. Bands, such as The Young Rapscallions, let their music do all of the talking.
You get a little bit of everything with these guys. Quite frankly, they are one of the few bands that I can listen to while I'm doing my homework. There are few distractions in their sound. The Young Rapscallions may be the best band that you have never heard of. "Middae" has an almost meditative, ambient sound that is almost entirely focused on the lead singer's voice. Did I mention that, sans autotune, his voice has a hypnotizing quality that I can almost describe as pure magic?
Others, such as "Yes/No" and "One Hard Push" have a very sexual quality that may or may not be intentional. However, they don't have to get a reaction by being obscene or suggestive. Literally, anyone could listen to and enjoy their music.
The titles of their songs honestly don't make the most sense and maybe that's some form of rebellion. When asked how they pick them in an interview, they were cited as saying "whatever sounds cool". However, they make up with poetic songwriting that would put most of today's musicians to shame. They actually stick with the art of making good music from writing to performing.
Unlike many artists today, The Young Rapscallions don't need all of the frills and thrills that many musicians use. Their music is thrilling enough as it is. Simple, sweet sound is missing from the repertoire of most musicians out there today. Don't get me wrong- the theatrics and special sound effects can be fun. But, there are few artists that can be successful without them.
