The Best Band You've Never Heard of: The Bombay Royale
The songs of the Bombay Royale tell a story. Think of it as a movie soundtrack without a movie. You can almost see a Bollywood-style musical playing in your head when you listen to their music, even if you don't understand the lyrics.
I personally love listening to "Mahindra Death Ride" when I'm driving to class. It gives my commute a very retro-epic feel. I actually had this playing when the pizza guy came by and got this really interesting look. Then again, it's a bit out of place in coastal North Carolina.Their music is marvelously obscure. I've heard a lot of music in my life and I can't say that I have ever heard anything like it.
Their usage of the sitar brings the spices of Indian magic to life andthe powerful horns bring something uniquely special to the magic. It's something I'm having trouble putting my finger on. Regardless, it's awesome. I wonder if this is what an acid trip is like- the exotic Eastern sounds and the colors they paint literally hypnotize you. I can guarantee that you will fall in love with the funky retro sound of The Bombay Royale!
Here is their video for "You Me Bullets Love", the title track for their newest album:
