American Idol Says Goodbye To Simon Cowell (and its Future)

It's the end of an era and the American Idol as we knew it is over. Simon Cowell, the only spark of life for most viewers of the reality talent show, said his goodbyes on the season finale last night. And lots of people showed up to say goodbye to him. Including Paula Abdul.

Simon will be heading off to his new show, X Factor, which will likely be where those who used to love AI will be headed. Let's face it, Idol just doesn't have the same appeal it did the first few seasons. Our family, which has a budding singer in it, watched religiously for the first six years, but the last two, this past one especially just didn't peak our interests.

I think we lost our interest when they brought in Kara Dioguardi, and while she's a talented songwriter, she's a TERRIBLE judge. Her demeanor, attitude and essence never meshed with the core group, and instead of admitting they made a mistake, the execs pushed out Paula Abdul. BIG MISTAKE.

Don't get me wrong, Paula is a hot mess and a half, however, she brought a certain amount of spontaneity and excitement to the show. Between her pill-induced blather, and rarely coherent observations, Paula and Simon played off each other in a very fun and compelling way. With both Paula and Simon gone, American Idol is DOOMED.

They had a sliver of hope when rumors of Howard Stern replacing Simon first popped up, that has since been shot down. While I have no idea who they plan to bring in, it won't matter, the death of American Idol is inevitable and I predict next year will be its last.

On a lighter note (and always unpredictable and weird) above is Paula's goodbye speech to Simon. She is SO WEIRD!
