Conan has been off the air since January, when NBC canceled Leno's prime-time hour after the ratings went south. NBC bought out O'Brien and his team for around $40 million to clear the way for Leno to reclaim to the position as The Tonight Show host. It was the same position handed off to O'Brien last year.
Conan’s contract with NBC prohibited him from appearing on any other satellite TV channel. But that did not stop Conan from performing on a tour titled Legally Prohibited from Being Funny.
