Could the Friends of Big Bang Theory be the New Friends?

The fourth season of Big Bang Theory begins in September on CBS.

I've been a big fan of Friends, Seinfeld and the British show Couples, but Big Bang Theory is something completely different; it has a fresh pace, and quietly, it will conquer you.

In Big Bang Theory there are four nerds/geeks, and an attractive blond woman, and it features their daily lives and interactions with the world around them. Nothing more — this is BBT's simple, but brilliant concept.

For me, Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, is the greatest character of the show. His hygiene OCD, relationship failures, mixed with his willingness to apply science to any little piece of life, are the ingredients that makes him the next Kramer. I want this t-shirt with his face on it!

The friendship with Sheldon's roommate Leonard, played by Johnny Galecki, reminds me of some classic movie friendships. A perfect example might be R2D2 and C-3PO in Star Wars.  In fact, if you are a fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, or any home video games console, you'll find many reasons to love Big Bang Theory

Another great character is Simon Helberg, who plays Howard Wolowitz. Howard's shtick is his frequent inferences to being a great lover. Actually, he is the only character that didn't really change since the first season, maybe because Simon plays that guy in his real life.

Then there's Raj, a major nerd who can only speak with a woman if he is drunk. Of course, to round out the cast is Kelly Cuoco, who plays Penny. In the first season, Penny played a blond airhead waitress who only dated handsome, but really stupid guys. By the end of the third season she was angry with her former boyfriend Leonard, because after dating him, she couldn't stand to date any hot, but dumb guys. Just like in Friends, in Big Bang Theory, characters are growing up, and we get to grow up with them.

Last, but not least for me, when I compare the fresh pace of Big Bang Theory with any Italian shows, full of old people and with their out-of-date stories, it makes me very sorry English isn't my mother language.
