TLC's Paranormal Court is in Session
Just when you thought it was safe to change the channel on Saturday night, another paranormal reality show joins the cable television ranks.
Adding to the normal Biography Channel line-up of Haunted History, Ghostly Encounters and Celebrity Ghost Stories, TLC throws its hat into the ring this Saturday, March 27, at 10 p.m. with Paranormal Court, featuring renowned Long Island psychic Robert Hansen.
Not your ordinary paranormal reality program, Hansen has his hands full — first you have to believe he is talking to the dead. Fortunately, that road has been paved for him by other famed psychic mediums, like John Edward, medium Lisa Williams, and Paranormal State and Psychic Kids', Chip Coffey. Coffey's shows introduced Americans to the "reality" of dead people talking.
For Paranormal Court, Hansen brings that and more to the mix by adding the Judge Judy factor. Through his paranormal gifts, Hansen helps to solve family disputes by going directly to the person who would know the right thing to do — Mom (or Dad, or Grandma or Aunt Susie) — whoever it is whose death brought on the dispute in the first place.
Hansen may be on to something, but talking to the dead is such a leap of faith in some people's minds that the arbitration scenario may be a moot issue. As long as the complainants believe, well, it may be the only way to really settle an issue. But, honestly, haven't the dead earned their rest? Do they really want to spend the afterlife coming back to deal with sibling rivalry? On television, no less, and on cue for the cameras? We will soon see. Stranger things have happened. Who thought a couple of plumbers investigating bumps in the night would become so popular as ghost hunters?
