USA Network Covert Affairs - Week 4 Recap
So far I think week four is my favorite episode of USA Network's Covert Affairs. We are immediately dropped into a "simple brush pass" which, of course, goes horribly wrong. The rest of the 42 minutes we watch how Annie finds her way out of trouble once again.
Annie is sent to Zurich for the sole purpose of exchanging a silver titanium suitcase with an Israeli Mossad agent. As she is walking through the airport she sees two men walking around with identical suitcases just before a bomb goes off.
Arthur, the Director of Clandestine Services, and his wife, Joan, Annie's boss, are enjoying a Sunday morning rendezvous in the bed when both their phones go off. They are alerted to the bombing in Zurich.
"Just tell me we didn't pull her (Annie) off the Farm before she learned how to go underground," Arthur says to Joan.
Annie "dead drops" her suitcase and makes it to a safe house, only to find one of the men she saw at the airport has made it there too.
I don't know much about Annie's relationship with her mysterious Ben, but I definitely saw sparks flying between Annie and Eyal, the Israeli agent. They are both in a position to trust one another because they don't know which of their agencies was compromised.
Annie's inexperience shows compared to Eyal, who makes a police scanner out of a radio, makes a gourmet meal with wine, stitches Annie's injury and knows about rigor mortis.
During one of her "check ins" with Auggie, Annie finds out that Eyal is in fact an experienced agent, so what has he done to be demoted to a "brush pass?" She'll find out towards the end of her mission that he "failed to follow protocol" by having a heart. Yet another reason for their mutual attraction.
