Home Knowledge Base Online Publishing Find out how other publishers are building their loyal audiences
Industry collaboration, exemplified
A new collaborative industry research platform drops the cost of detailed market research to zero and make the lives of online publishers much, much easier.
What are the key questions every online publishers wants to answer about their peers? How much money are they making. How are they doing compared to other similar publishers. How are they doing compared to other online content types. Which of their user growth strategies are working. The answers to those questions have not been readily available at any significant scale — until now.
Content monetization company VigLink and online market research firm Netpop launched Publisher Roundtable. The idea is simple. Online publishers spend a few minutes answering questions. For their participation they get access to aggregated research based on all publisher replies.
Better still, Netpop’s analytics team will analyze answers and tease out tips on what is working for different types and sizes of online properties. Participating publishers will also be able to build custom reports tracking responses correlated to property revenue levels and content type – in other words, true peer comparisons. Every quarter, another survey will be conducted, building on the pool of knowledge and collective intelligence and generating more wisdom from a diverse, experienced online publishing crowd.
The upshot? These research reports, tips and comparisons could yield immediate returns to participating publishers who might otherwise miss a new tool, trend, or monetization strategy. Having access to a large pool of peers who have been-there and done-that might save a publisher the trouble of wasting time on a strategy or technology that doesn’t deliver.
The first Publisher Roundtable interview will examine how publishers are building their audiences, an evergreen question for all publishers. The survey will benchmark satisfaction with the quality of various channels used to acquire audience — including SEO, SEM, and social media — and probe which of these channels have the most impact. Publishers will also be invited to join their peers in private online forums, diving deeper into the unique aspects of running a content site and talking to real people with specific industry expertise..
Founding publishers include Huddler and Texture Media.Publisher Roundtable is open to anyone who publishes a content site of any type. VigLinks stated goal is to recruit as many publishers as possible, from the small mom-and-pop shops to the largest editorial and content operations on the Web. You can sign up at PublisherRoundtable.com.
