A Great Summer Smoothie Recipe: Taste of East India
For years, I have enjoyed smoothies. Who hasn't? Everyone is looking for a quick, easy, healthy breakfast that is also tasty.
Recently, I came across this recipe in one of my many cookbooks. It has a frothy, exotic taste that will cool you off during the summer. The black tea provides just enough caffeine to get you started for the day. Many of my neighbors are Indian and Pakistani, so, I have acquired a bit of a taste for these flavors.
First, here is what you need to make the smoothie:
-Black Tea-I used Tea India, which I bought from my neighbor's Indian grocery store outside of Atlanta.
-1/2 Cup Milk- I used soy milk, but, I think coconut milk would probably give it a very beautiful, exotic taste.
-One Banana.
-Optional: Two Tablespoons Protein Powder. I used Vanilla Designer Whey Protein Powder.
-Cinnamon
-One Tablespoon Honey
-1/3 Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt. I used Aldi's brand nonfat vanilla yogurt.
The original recipe called for cardamom. However, I did not use this.
First, brew the tea and prepare as directed. Mix in the milk and set aside with ice to cool.
When cooled, add tea mixture, banana, protein powder, honey, yogurt, and cinnamon. Blend for about a minute.
Enjoy your smoothie! The protein powder is a great addition because it fuels muscles, reduces both body weight and body fat, increases muscle tone, and decreases recovery time. Regardless, I found this recipe a refreshing twist on some of the exotic flavors I grew up with. Hopefully, you will enjoy this too!
