Allahabad Railway Station Stampede: Death Toll Rises to 35

The death figure in the Allahabad Railway Station stampede has reached to 35. The Stampede occurred on Sunday at about 7:00 pm IST.
Currently the holy Festival of Kumbh Mela is taking place in the Country. The festival is held once in every three years. During this festival millions of pilgrims gather on the banks of holy rivers to take the Sacred Bath (Shahi Snan).
Allahabad is one of the four places where the Sacred Bath takes place. Ad yesterday being 'Mauni Amavasya'- One of the Auspicious day during the Kumbh Mela, Millions of devotees gathered in Allahabad to take the Sacred Bath. The incident occurred when these devotees were returning to their places after taking the Bath. When the incident occurred about 2 Lakh People were present at the Allahabad Railway Station.

Earlier it was said that the incident took place due to the falling of the Railway foot-over-bridge on Platform number 6, but later in a Statement, Railway Minister Mr. Pawan Bansal confirmed that no such accident took place.
According to some eye-witness statements, it's being said that the stampede occurred when a Railway arrived on a Platform different to which was made during the train announcement.
There were many problems faced during the rescue operation as there was no place on the Railway station following the Massive Crowd. The injured were lying down for hours on the platform waiting for the doctors.
Prime-Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh expressed his deep condolence for all the victims of the Stampede. He also assured Financial help and all sorts of help to the Victims.
