Burberry Prorsum: FW2012
British, British, British... It could not get any more British than this. Pure British luxury, that was what the latest collection was all about, and actually... the entire brand is all about.
Holding strong to the brand’s heritage Christopher Bailey, decided to take an adventurous ride to the hillsides of Scotland and the wild side of Yorkshire but with his signature sophistication that comes from the streets of London. As a result he gave us a terrific collection in which country and city dressing merged in the most luxurious way possible, it felt like a day in the life of the Royal Family with hunting, shooting and horse riding outfits combined with their ultra stylish urban wardrobe. “I love the idea of merging worlds — the digital and physical worlds, the country and city,” said Bailey, who received an overwhelming ovation after the show has finished. “And I like taking familiar elements — the field jacket, the quilted jacket, the trench — and respecting them but making them modern”. The outcome was a dream, a magical dream that could be felt from the very first look, a bi-color wool trench with patch-maxi-pockets and a flirty bow-belt.
Fall colors invaded a runway that became an ode to the brand’s greatest hits: the outerwear in all shapes and lengths possibles. Burnt mustard, burgundy, grays, black and so numerous shades of green and brown, colored trench-coats, cropped bomber jackets, blazer in so many variations, and fabrics like wool, velvet and herringbone in different shapes that included peplums and egg shaped sleeves, that was just fantastic, simply magnificent. When you think that the coats and trenches could not get any more fabulous and glamourous, Bailey gives us this to leave us breathless.
Printed blouses and sweaters with owls and dogs combined with fox heads and bows on belt buckles gave the collection a fun and relaxed feeling to that all-time english elegance that invaded the show. Giant golden zippers and buttons with studded pieces were a statement by them self and gave it an edgy twist to that gentleman/lady look. Timeless luxury in elegant pieces magnificently mixed with modern and sporty pieces. It was too much to handle, a lot of luxury and beauty in such magnificent pieces. And the finale was even more magical with that golden rain and the open umbrellas... It was breath-taking. See the best looks from the runway here
